Trim your wood pieces and doors to the perfect size with reduced manual labour with the use of electric planers. Cromwell offer a vast range of corded and cordless planers from leading brands such as Bosch®, Makita®, and Hikoki®.
Electric planers are an essential tool used in the woodworking and carpentry industries which allows for incremental stock removal on the workpiece. Electric planers tend to have a wider blade than hand planers and allow for work on thicker workpieces. Due to the nature of the work completed, planers also have the added benefit of smoothing the workpiece to the same height across the piece.
Electric planers can be used in most situations where a normal hand planer can be used. The electric motors in them greatly reduces the amount of manual labour required, they can work on larger pieces quickly and efficiently.
• Power source - The power source is an important consideration when selecting a planer as it will determine how the planer can be used. If the planer is cordless, it will be more mobile than a corded planer which must be tethered to the power socket.
• Planing width - The planning width of the electric planer is a key consideration as this will determine the thickness of wood that can be worked on at a time.
• Depth of cut - The depth of cut will determine the amount that will be cut per pass. A higher depth of cut will generally require less passes on the workpiece.
Are electric planers any good?
Electric planers are lightweight and powerful tools that efficiently makes incremental reductions to any wood pieces. Their powerful motors allow for the blade to be wider than they would be in a hand planer, allowing for a reduction in manual labour. Being available in corded and cordless forms offers great flexibility based on the required environment.
Do electric planers make a mess?
All power tools will create some sort dust whilst in use. As electric planers have a blade that rotate multiple times per second, the offcuts will be smaller than with a hand planer. This should be a consideration when using corded or cordless planers and clean up must be taken into account.
